Solana Beach

Welcome to Solana Beach

California’s friendliest beach town is waiting for you.
About 30 minutes north of San Diego, surrounded by parks and trails, lies the coastal city of Solana Beach. A popular spot for surfing, Solana Beach was voted Southern California’s friendliest beach town. This close community proudly believes in supporting its neighbors, making it a haven for small businesses. Highly frequented beaches are protected by lifeguards year-round, making Solana Beach family-friendly. Cafes, bakeries, art galleries, and local concerts bring charm to this scenic slice of heaven on earth.
First inhabited by Native Americans, the region was frequented by Spanish colonials on northbound trails that wound inward to avoid lagoons and swamps in the area. The first European settlers arrived in 1886, while the Lake Hodges Dam was constructed in 1917-1918, leading to the rapid development of the area. The region grew slowly but steadily, with major booms occurring after World War II and again at the end of the 20th century.
In modern times, Solana Beach is a picture-perfect town with farmers’ markets, art galleries, and antique shopping available throughout the week.

Dining, Entertainment, and Shopping

After an early-morning wave session, surfers descend upon Barefoot Coffee Roasters to pick up a treat before they continue on with the rest of their day. Much more than coffee, this cafe offers sandwiches, pastries, and craft ice cream, with plenty of variations available for every diet. One familiar favorite is their avocado toast. The locally grown California avocados and abundance of available extra toppings have elevated this traditional staple above the rest.
Claire’s on Cedros is another brunch hotspot. A healthy mix of both sweet and savory options is available with dishes including French toast, pancakes, eggs benedict, and fried green tomato sandwiches. Dozens of other places to brunch or grab dinner are located up and down buzzing Cedros Avenue, just steps off the coast.

Shopping can be found a bit more inward at the Solana Beach Towne Centre. A first-class shopping destination, Towne Centre is home to much more than your typical boutiques and sports bars. Events are held for the whole family to look forward to, like trick-or-treating on Halloween. One of the most-frequented establishments here is Fish District. Famous for their poke bowls and Baja-style tacos, Fish District is a family-owned and operated establishment with other locations throughout the San Diego area.
