Leucadia

Welcome to Leucadia

Hip, happening, historic, and a little funky, too.

Facing the Pacific Ocean, the community of Leucadia is situated along with a series of cliffs lining the northern San Diego coastline. A hip and eclectic neighborhood, Leucadia is well-known for its hot “Main Street” district, located along the North Coast Highway 101 corridor. Towering rock formations above the beaches below give the shore a level of seclusion not often found in Southern California, making these quieter beaches a favorite for those lucky enough to stumble upon them.

Settled in the late 1800s, Leucadia was named for one of the Greek Islands in the Ionian Sea. In the present day, “Keep Leucadia Funky!” bumper stickers are plentiful, giving residents a true taste of the friendly and relaxed Southern California life. Both new residents and Cali natives enjoy life in classic California-style bungalows and seaside estates with Pacific views.

What to Love

  • Locals are proud of their funky, hip, eclectic, and friendly vibe
  • The coastal location provides fresh food options at the many top-rated restaurants
  • A decidedly relaxed lifestyle, even by San Diego standards

Local Lifestyle

Most locals have to pinch themselves when they remember that they are lucky enough to live in the coastal haven that is Leucadia. Leucadia is a laid-back beach town that makes residents feel like they are on vacation year-round. Small businesses along the 101 thrive thanks to heavy support from their neighbors. In return, they provide unique dining and shopping opportunities for Leucadia residents to dine on fresh, home-grown California fare, and bring back unique trinkets to decorate their homes and closets. Leucadia parks are busy every day of the week, while the beaches are unique from others in SoCal, offering seclusion and a quieter environment.

Dining, Entertainment, and Shopping

One of the best things about Leucadia’s year-round temperate climate is the abundant opportunity for al fresco dining. Patio life, Pacific views, just-caught seafood, locally grown California produce — how could it get any better?

Locals love to support their community’s businesses and flock to hotspots such as Fish 101. Overlooking Moonlight Beach, this unfussy spot specializes in (you guessed it) fish and making it the best it’s ever been. Some of their top-rated dishes include fish and chips, fresh poke, and tacos. Don’t forget to grab a homemade lemonade or an ice-cold Pacifico to wash it down.

Another favorite can be found in Le Papagayo, right on the 101. A consistent winner of many Diners Choice Awards, this Latin fusion restaurant specializes in putting spicy twists on California and American classics. Lamb, crab cakes, and the lobster bisque are long-standing favorites. The cherry on top is their house-made cotton candy, beloved by guests of all ages.

These options and more are all located just a block away from the beach, so guests can walk off their food comas with their feet in the saltwater and cool sand.

Things To Do

Leucadia residents enjoy several of the conveniences of modern life while still appreciating charming vibes from previous times. La Paloma, a historic, Spanish Colonial Revival-style movie theater, has been in business for almost 100 years. Started by the one and only Charlie Chaplin, La Paloma was one of the first theaters in the world to premiere movies with sound. Parks, farmers’ markets, and festivals are also popular ways to get out and about, and Taste of Leucadia, presented by the Leucadia 101 Main Street Association, is a local favorite. Local restaurants, vineyards, and breweries line the streets to give out samples and light bites of their best-selling offerings.

Schools

Leucadia residents benefit from living within prestigious school districts. One of these highly ranked campuses can be found at:

  • Carlsbad High School, grades 9-12; as a whole, their clubs and athletic teams have won hundreds of competitions, titles and other awards
